Hi, and welcome to my blog! My name is Amanda and as my family and friends know, I absolutely love cooking. The purpose of this blog is to share my favourite recipes, to offer suggestions regarding variations of recipes and getting the most out of a recipe. Unfortunately, I generally cannot get through someone else’s recipe without messing with it, which is another purpose of this blog – to record my experiments, as well as to record the recipes for “old favourites” which have been rattling around in my head for years.
The focus will be primarily healthy recipes with the odd deviation down dessert street. I don’t really have a fixation on a particular cuisine or type of ingredient, but I just love to experiment. If there is a focus at all, it would be on “real” food, not convenience, with emphasis on creative and delicious vegetarian food. The odd meat dish will appear, though.
While I currently reside on the west coast, I have had the good fortune to have lived in many parts of Canada. Also, I lived in Europe for many years both as a child and as an adult, and have travelled over there extensively. These two facts probably account for my all-over-the-map taste in food. I like *almost* everything, and am always interested in broadening my horizons in food from all cultures and countries 🙂
Why “Toad’s Kitchen”? Toad was/is my parents’ and brother’s childhood nickname for me, and it stuck. I embrace it (now) 😉 The name of the blog can be considered a nod to my parents, who instilled in me the love of good food, and of travelling..two of my passions still, today.
